Leopard rescue mission in Maharashtra: Watch a Video

Imagine if your head is stuck in a plastic water can or any box, and you are unable to breathe, eat or drink. It is hard to stay calm.

This scenario came true for a leopard in the Thane district of Maharashtra. The leopards belong to the cat family and are the least social members of the family.

A leopard was traced near Badlapur village whose head was stuck in the water can.

Leopard’s rescue mission

After the leopard was spotted officials from the Forest Department, representatives from SGNP and NGO Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) launched the rescue operation. The rescue operation lasted by 48 hours.

When the leopard was spotted, it was calmed by throwing a dart. The rescuers said that the dart hits the leopard, it trembled with a force that the can loosen from its head.

According to the forest officers, the leopard was without food and water for two days. It is severely dehydrated and is undergoing treatment.

The leopard is now at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park(SGNP) rescue centre for treatment. It will be kept under treatment for 24 to 48 hours before releasing it in the wild.
