7 May is celebrated as World Laughter Day. It takes place on the first Sunday of May of every year.

What is the history of World Laughter Day?

It was started in 1998 by Dr Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement.

So, what is laughter yoga?

• Laughter Yoga is based on the facial feedback hypothesis.
• The hypothesis states that a person’s facial expressions can have an effect on their emotions.
• There are a lot of laughter clubs in the world now and a lot of people practice collective laughter yoga.

The celebration of World Laughter Day is an important step towards collective happiness and world peace. It is to build consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter.
