No Smoking Day!

Recommended for Middle Grades

No Smoking Day is observed every year on the second Wednesday of March. This year, that date is today – 8 March.

This day is observed to raise awareness about the disastrous effects of smoking in daily life. It aims to help smokers who want to quit smoking.

Key facts!

  • This movement started in the UK in 1984. Smoking is an extremely dangerous habit.
  • It not only affects your lungs but your entire body.
  • Its effect starts with coughing and throat irritation.
  • Over time, it leads to serious diseases like heart disease and cancer.
  • Smoking is also dangerous for people around you.
  • While it is important to quit smoking, it is even more important to not start smoking in the first place.
  • Many young people, even teenagers start smoking out of curiosity or to look “cool”.
  • Once it becomes a habit, it is hard to stop.
