World Password Day, 5 May!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Intel founded World Password Day in 2013 to promote awareness about the significance strong passwords play in securing all of our online activity. Since then it’s taken on a life of its own, with people offering advice for secure passwords worldwide.

This year, while you celebrate World Password Day, take the time to strengthen the security of your passwords. It will only take you 5 minutes, but it might save you hours of frustration in the long run.

Significance of World Password Day!

While passwords have been in some form or another since the beginning of time, and have been used in the computing environment since the early 1960s, they are not the most secure solution for a modern, digital world.

Data theft has already resulted in the exposure of billions of passwords, demonstrating the necessity for businesses to use a solution that delivers the highest level of protection for both workers and consumers.

Unfortunately, user-generated passwords are one of the most significant obstacles to achieving this aim, with illegal credentials accounting for 61 per cent of all data breaches in 2015 as per reports.

What is Passwordless authentication?

It is “any way of validating the identity of a user that does not need the user to submit a password.”

Few tips to create strong passwords!

  • Make your password a nonsensical phrase or phrase that makes no sense to you.
  • Avoid the use of obvious personal information. Avoid using the same password more than once.
  • Don’t share your passwords with anybody or anything else.
  • Once the password has been changed, it should not be used for a very lengthy period of time. So, make sure you change your passwords on a regular basis.

Passwords to Passwordless!

Many individuals are accustomed to using passwords, and it will take some time for them to become accustomed to the notion of working in a completely passwordless environment.

A key goal of passwordless authentication is to provide technologies and completely eliminate the need for passwords.

  • One method of achieving passwordless authentication, for example, is to use face recognition instead of a traditional password.
  • Another approach is to employ intelligent behaviour analysis of user activities to establish authentication requirements.
  • Passwordless is based on the capacity to obtain additional information about a user’s identification, such as a fingerprint or a device identifier, instead of a password. When you have such capabilities, you can adopt passwordless access without compromising security.
