Pandemic lessons for teachers
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a major change in education all over the world. Teachers and students have learnt many lessons during the pandemic. This pandemic phase has brought a lot of challenges including online classes. The teachers were forced to think out of the box to find techniques and ways to make online learning easier for the students.
Jacci Storey is an intermediate school teacher at Wyoming Public School, Michigan. She said that as teachers, we have to take a look at the students’ strengths and build their confidence. We have to encourage students at every point in time. Once, the students get confident enough, their assessments, their test scores, everything would get better eventually.
Laura Sluys is a teacher at Wyoming Elementary School. She teaches to the students who are suffering from an early stage of memory loss. She said that she has learnt a lesson during the pandemic, that is, she learnt about the possibilities about what the students could do on their own. During the online classes, the students gained independence and they started helping each other during the class session. Laura said that the students have also taught her something new every day.

Lillian Cummings-Pulliams is a psychologist at Wyoming Public School. She stated that the pandemic brought fear and negativity with it. Many students have suffered a lot on the physical and mental levels, but the teachers got to see positivity with our joint efforts for the improvement. As per the government orders, the schools were closed, so the virtual platform has benefitted both teachers and students.
Overall, many schools had organized virtual meetings and events for the parents, and the parent participation had been overwhelming. Moreover, when online classes were being held, parents were able to invest time with their children and help them in their studies. This is a great positive effect of the online learning started by the schools.
