The Most Memorable Train Journey

Image depicting train Journey

From the beginning, I didn’t like going anywhere on a train. I always used to go somewhere or the other by an aeroplane, but this time I was going to Dwarka in Gujarat, and now you can imagine my horror when I heard that there isn’t any airport in Dwarka. I was a little sad and a little excited and happy I must say because I was sitting on a train after a long time and also because we were in the AC Second class. We reached Dwarka by the next day 2 pm. This is what happened when we were going to Dwarka.

When we were coming back to Mumbai (I was staying in Mumbai for a vacation) something really horrible happened on our train journey that at least I will never forget in my life.

We like normal people went onto our train and sat there. Suddenly, another family came and asked us to move and told us that the seat is theirs, but my father then showed him our ticket. The man pointed out the ticket was from yesterday. My family was there in a deep dilemma, and I was standing there thinking this all was a dream. My father went to call the TT and I sat down in a berth as the train was completely empty and it had started moving. I was trying not to cry. I was still thinking this is a joke but of course, it wasn’t.

When my father came with the TT, the TT made us a ticket but of the Sleeper class. When I heard that I was crying deep inside my heart but I just couldn’t show my feelings. I decided to adjust for a day. I went past many coaches still sad. When we finally arrived, I saw people, all sorts of people on the train. I was feeling disgusted even moving past them, but I did and I sat on our seat. We were going to reach Mumbai by tomorrow 4:30 am. We ate our lunch which was Thepla with some achaar. After that, I decided to divert my mind by watching mobile, but I actually couldn’t, I was trying my best to be happy so that my parents do not feel guilty about themselves. And guess what I did it! I was happy and I also learned how to adjust to situations like this. I just sat throughout the day thinking this was a positive obstacle which life has given me. Everything was going well. I don’t know when exactly I went to sleep.

At around 11 pm I saw a man, he was wearing a filthy t-shirt and pants and was barefoot. He was looking everywhere and trying to take a bedsheet on the floor which was ours. My grandfather saw him and shouted at him. He got alert and went to the other coach. My father at once came there and decided to stand there. I was really scared at what happened. Suddenly another man from Kerala who was a part of the Indian Airforce joined my father he was standing there because he had to get down on the next station, I don’t remember exactly the name. My father was an ex-serviceman of NAVY so the other man and my father were talking about the Indian Army when that thief again came back. The Airforce man asked him if he has a ticket he told him No.

My father asked that he is close to the TT seat and that the TT will throw him out if he does not have ticket. The thief lied that nothing like that would happen because he works in the Indian Army. My father and the other man knew at once that he was lying. They asked him why was he lying? I too knew he was lying because you can recognize a person if working in the Indian army from his/her behaviour, dressing style etc. But this person had nothing like that. Suddenly a station arrived and I again dozed back to sleep but kept thinking about that man. My father understood that and told me that some police officers just got up on the train and took the man to another coach and made him get down to the next station. I just couldn’t believe it. I went to check I saw the policewomen and policemen and thanks to god, not the man. I was exhausted so I went back to sleep again and when I opened my eyes we were at our destination. We took a taxi to reach home and after getting fresh eating my breakfast I finally took a sigh of relief.

This is how this train journey became the most memorable journey for me.
