The image depicts an optical illusion of a sphere on a checkerboard pattern. This artistic piece, drawn on lined paper, cleverly uses shading to create the three-dimensional effect of a sphere resting on a two-dimensional checkered surface.
The alternation of dark and light squares is disrupted by the illusion of the sphere, causing the checks to appear as if they bend around its curvature. Despite the simplicity of the tools likely used—just a pencil and paper—the artist has skillfully played with light, shadow, and perspective to challenge the viewer’s perception.
