James Webb captures breathtaking Jupiter’s auroras & moons!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

James Webb, the most advanced space telescope in the world, can see Jupiter’s auroras and other features more clearly than ever before. Scientists share pictures of our solar system’s biggest planet.

NASA and the European Space Agency worked together to make the James Webb. It came out at the end of the year before.

Since the summer, the telescope has been looking at the sky in the infrared. Researchers hope to see what the universe looked like 13 billion years ago with the help of the James Webb Space Telescope.

Around this time, the first stars and galaxies were just starting to come together. About 1.6 million kilometres separate the observatory from the Earth.

Key facts!

  • The Great Red Spot stands out prominently among countless other storms of varying sizes.
  • One of the clearly shows rings that are located around the planet.
  • In addition, the telescope captures two minuscule moons, set against a glittering background of galaxies.
  • Astronomers believe that they’ve never seen Jupiter like this and describe the findings as incredible.
  • According to the research team, the infrared images were digitally coloured in blue, white, green, yellow, and orange so that the features would be more noticeable.
  • The telescope captures views of Jupiter’s northern and southern lights.
  • Also, it clearly shows Jupiter’s swirling polar haze, which had never been seen before.
