Justice DY Chandrachud is India’s 50th Chief Justice!

Justice D.Y. Chandrachud will swear in as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI) on November 9, 2022. He will serve as the Chief Justice of India for two years.
Justice Chandrachud was made the most senior judge in the Supreme Court on May 13, 2016. Justice Chandrachud is known for giving decisions that are in line with liberal and progressive values.
His most recent decision, which upheld the right of unmarried women who are up to 24 weeks pregnant to get an abortion, shows this.
