Indian Army’s Pangong Tso patrol gets new gear!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

In order to get ready for the Pangong Tso patrol, India built new docks and improved its speedboats. Both the landing craft and the speed boats can carry up to 35 soldiers. The speed boats can go as fast as 35 knots.

What is Pangong Tso?

Pangong Tso, also called Pangong Lake, is a lake that stretches across eastern Ladakh and west Tibet.

The Army has set up more landing docks and speed boats to keep an eye on the lake.

Key facts!

  • India has been working to improve its defence capabilities and develop its infrastructure.
  • In order to catch up with the Chinese military’s expansion along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
  • This is a part of India’s overall capability enhancement and infrastructure development effort.
  • According to authorities, speed boats can achieve speeds of up to 35 knots.
  • The landing vessels have the capacity to take either 35 soldiers or one jeep along with 12 staff.
  • According to the reports, the brand-new landing craft has also been stationed at Sir Creek in Gujarat.
  • India is home to a third of the Pangong lake which stretches over 135 kilometres.
  • The water lake freezes over during the winter months since it was formed by the melting of glaciers.
  • It is surrounded by finger-like bumps of the surrounding mountain range.
  • Both sides also use speedboats to patrol, which often leads to confrontations between the two sides.
