2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup!

India played its first match in the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup against Spain. Furthermore, India’s opening game in the Hockey World Cup 2023 lived up to its promise.

The game produced moments of elation and sorrow in equal measure. In the end, India defeated Spain 2-0.

The Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 is going on in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, Odisha. The matches will be played from January 13 to January 29.

Sixteen world teams are competing for the prized title.  Four groups of four teams each are made up of the 16 teams. These groups are called Pools A through D. During the group stage of the competition, the teams in each group play against each other once.

  • In front of a crowd of more than 20,000 people roaring at the Hockey Stadium India defeated Spain.
  • According to experts, team India displayed characteristics of a dominant side for more than half of the encounter.
  • Spain was kept on the back foot as a result of complete dominance.
  • Local lad Amit Rohidas scored on a rebound after Harmanpreet Singh’s effort was saved in the thirteenth minute to convert India’s second penalty corner into a goal.
  • This was one of the instances in which India scored.
  • After exactly 13 minutes, Hardik Singh scored India’s second goal.
  • He took the ball from the halfway line and made a solo run past four defenders all the way to the backline.
  • The shot was deflected off the stick of Pau Cunill to give India the victory.
  • In the meantime, the Indian defence appeared to be unbreakable, as they scarcely let Spain into the circle for the first quarter of an hour.
  • In the second half, Spain was very close to becoming successful.
  • However, the Indian attackers continued to have the upper hand.
  • In the end, India’s performance was more than enough to defeat a slick opponent like Spain.
