India signs 10 MoUs with Bhutan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a 2-day state visit to Bhutan.
On his visit, he has held talks with the Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering with a view of strengthening relations between the two countries. India and Bhutan have also signed 10 MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding).
The 10 MoUs* are in the fields of space research, aviation, IT, power and education.
- PM Modi inaugurated the Mangdechhu hydroelectric power plant and launched stamps to commemorate five decades of India-Bhutan hydropower cooperation.
- PM Modi also launched the RuPay Card in Bhutan.
- The two PMs also unveiled an e-plaque on the interconnection between India’s National Knowledge Network and Bhutan’s Druk Research and Education Network.
- Additionally, they jointly inaugurated the Ground Earth Station and SATCOM network. This has been developed with assistance from ISRO for utilisation of South Asia Satellite in Bhutan.
- After signing MoUs, PM Modi planted a cypress tree sapling and also met the monks at Simtokha Dzong.
Prime Minister Tshering said India and Bhutan may vary in size but their beliefs, values and motivation are common.
PM Modi also had an audience with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan.
*MoU: It is a formal document describing the broad outlines of an agreement that two or more parties have reached through negotiations. It is not a legally binding document but signals the intention of all parties to move forward with an agreement.
