Golden Globe Awards 2020

Recommended for Middle Grades

The year 2020 began with Hollywood’s biggest award season.

Last night, 05 January 2020 (early this morning for India) saw the 77th Golden Globe Awards ceremony in the US.

Ricky Gervais, best known for creating, writing and acting in the British television series, was the main host for the event.

Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., HBO were some of the major winners.

Some major winners

  • Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ and ‘1917’ took home the top prizes for the best motion picture in musical/drama categories at the 2020 Golden Globes.

  • Awkwafina bagged the award for best actress in a comedy or musical, becoming the first Asian American to win in the category.
  • The breakout South Korean film ‘Parasite’ took home the award for best foreign-language film.
  • Laika Entertainment’s ‘Missing Link‘ won the prize for the best-animated feature, pushing Disney and Universal.
  • Similar to Emmy Awards, ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Chernobyl’ dominated the television awards portion of the ceremony.
  • Netflix, who earned 34 nominations in both film and Television, won only two awards in respective categories.

However, Netflix’s huge number of nominations has changed the picture of Hollywood.
