Karnataka’s Pavagada Solar Park becomes fully operational

India’s sustainable goal to develop clean and sustainable energy has taken a big leap with the now fully operational Pavagada Solar Park. 

  • Pavagada Solar Park, the world’s largest solar power park is situated in the Tumkur district of Karnataka.
  • The park has a power generating capacity of 2050 MW.
  • Pavagada project which was launched in 2015 was developed by the Karnataka Solar Park Development Corporation Limited (KSPDCL).
  • The park is divided into eight blocks of 250 MW each.
  • It has dedicated high voltage supply lines, pooling stations and a pooling substation for evacuation during an emergency situation.

  • The park is built on drought-hit lands that were leased from farmers.
  • The KSPDCL is paying ₹21,000/acre per year to the farmers, from whom the land was leased.
  • This amount will be hiked by five% every two years and will be highly beneficial to the farmers.
  • With the commencement of  Pavagada Solar Park, Karnataka becomes the top solar state in India. The state now has approximately 7.1 GW of large-scale solar projects in operation.
