Centre renames two prominent institutes after late Sushma Swaraj

On Thursday, the central government renamed two important government institutes after former Union Minister for External Affairs (MEA), Sushma Swaraj, who passed away last year.
Which are the two institutes?
- Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra – it has been renamed Sushma Swaraj Bhavan. This centre recognises the contributions of the overseas Indian community to India’s growth and development.
- This is in honour of her well-known her empathy in reaching out to distressed Indians globally when she was the MEA minister.
- The Foreign Service Institute – it has also been renamed as Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service. This is a government institution where Indian diplomats are trained before entering service.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that the two institutions have been renamed as a tribute to her invaluable contribution to diplomacy and public service.
In her long and illustrious career, Ms Swaraj held many posts. She was the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi and the first woman spokesperson for a national political party. She had also served as the Information and Broadcasting Minister in the previous BJP government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
