Kumaon is a region of Uttarakhand. The people living here are called Kumaoni and they speak the Kumaoni language.

- Lush green forests and snowcapped mountains surround the town.
- Some of the popular mountain peaks that you can see from there are Nanda Devi and Panchachuli.
- In fact, many glaciers originate from these mountains, such as the Milam, Namik and Ralam glaciers.
- A glacier is a large mass of ice that moves slowly over land. Treks to the religious shrines of Kailash and Mansarovar also begin from Pithoragarh.
- Besides natural beauty, the town also has an informative history.
- The Chand Rajas of Kumaon ruled this area and during their rule built the Pithoragarh Fort.
- There are many villages around, such as Chaukori where you can learn about the local lifestyle of the Kumaoni people.
- It is best to visit Pithoragarh in April-June when the weather is pleasant.
