Fire disaster at coaching institute in Surat

A massive fire broke out at around 3:30 pm 25th May at Takshashila Arcade, a coaching centre in Surat, Gujarat.

The fire is believed to have happened due to an electrical short circuit, near the staircase.

Around 50 people were inside the institute at that time.
 	The fire engulfed the entire 3rd and 4th floor. It created suffocation and panic among the people.
 	The officials reported that around 20 people were killed in this disaster and several got injured.
 	A fire official stated that 19 fire engines were sent to tackle the situation.
 	The Coaching institute took responsibility for the incident and promised to give 4 lakhs each, to the victims’ families.

Many old building are being used for multiple purposes due to space constraints.

Some of the safety measures, which all coaching institutes and official buildings should follow include:

Buildings should have enough fire extinguishers and smoke alarms.
 	There should be more than one entry or exit. The building and pantry areas should be well ventilated.
 	The occupants of the building should be trained on how to handle emergencies and disasters.
 	Regular repair and maintenance of electricity wires should be done. Sufficient electric load should be allocated and high voltage wires should be installed.

Parents send their children to study .kids should be safe..why did they jump from window..they should have used ropes

  Thanks for raising an important question. Small institutes do not have enough fire safety equipment in place. Fire extinguishers and ropes are part of that.
  
  This is an unfortunate happening. The municipalities/ Government should come up with strict rules and also doing audits.
