World Habitat Day!

Recommended for Important Days

Today we are celebrating World Habitat Day. We celebrate this day on the first Monday of every October. And this year, today, 3 October, is the day.

What is the meaning of a habitat?

A habitat is the natural home of a plant or an animal.

Key facts!

  • The United Nations (UN) celebrates World Habitat Day every year to promote the basic right to adequate shelter or housing for all.
  • World Habitat Day also reminds the world that everyone has the power and the responsibility to shape the future of towns and cities.
  • According to the United Nations, around 1.8 billion people were already living in places like slums.
  • And now, with the pandemic, homelessness has even become a bigger problem.
  • So it is ever important that we create a safe environment for everyone to live, work and learn.
  • In the year 2022, World Habitat Day will be celebrated with the theme “Mind the Gap. Leave No One and Place Behind”.
  • The theme examines the issue of growing inequality as well as the issues that come with living in cities and other human settlements.
  • It also aims to bring awareness to the growing disparities and vulnerabilities that have been worsened as a result of the triple ‘C’ crises, which are COVID-19, climate, and conflict.
