Film crew launches to shoot movie in space

Recommended for Foundational Grades

We have earlier read about Russia’s plan to shoot the first movie in space. This movie is named “Vyzov” (meaning “The Challenge”).

The main star of the film is 35-year-old Russian actress Yulia Peresild. She has been part of many Russian films and TV series. And the director will be 37-year-old Klim Shipenko. Both Yulia and Klim are famous in Russia. Roscosmos (Russia’s space agency) selected them through competition.

Over the last few months, they have been trying hard to become fit to travel to the ISS (International Space Station). Shipenko even lost 15 kg during his training.

Spacetravel to shoot a movie in space

Finally, now, the actress and director have launched to the ISS. They took off in a Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft from Baikonur in Kazakhstan. Cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov led the mission. They reached the International Space Station in about 3 hours.

The director and actress will stay 12 days there and shoot the film. Two Russian cosmonauts already on board, Oleg Novitsky and Pyotr Dubrov, will also take part in the film.

Some Roscosmos astronauts did not want the mission to go ahead. They felt that shooting a film in the ISS, which is for science experiments, is not good. However, it is going ahead.

How do you feel about watching a movie in space?
