Species of giant tortoise discovered in Galapagos
We have already met Jonathon, World’s oldest living tortoise. Now, different species of giant tortoise are discovered in Galapagos islands in the pacific ocean. Scientists took the DNA samples of the animals living on the San Cristobal island of the Galapagos. They found that these animals are unknown to the mankind.

The giant tortoises belong to the species called Chelonoidis Chathamensis. The new species of giant tortoise were believed to be extinct since the beginning of the 20th century.
Scientists will try to recover DNA from tortoise bones in museums and match them with the new species. Further studies of the species will decide the name of the species.
The Galapagos Islands is a UNESCO World Heritage site because of the huge amount of wildlife and biological diversity. Many unique species of animals are found on these islands.
