Curious Times: Technology has brought about a shift in the teaching and learning ecosystem. As you reimagine future, what, in your opinion, would be the role of technology and what would be the role of teachers?
Dr. Jyoti Verma: Technology can’t replace teacher’s place. It can be helping hand but not all in all.
Curious Times: NEP 2020 puts a lot of emphasis on skilling and co-curricular activities. How will this have a positive impact on learning outcomes in the future?
Dr. Jyoti Verma: Because it is based on vocational education. “Learning by doing” will be the best learning outcome in the future.
Curious Times: What role can schools play in making students reach their potential careers?
Dr. Jyoti Verma: Schools are playing major role in making students reach their potential careers with the help of vocational education, guidance, awareness and by giving them proper knowledge in particular subject. Schools are always working for overall development of a child.
Curious Times: The pressures in the 21st century is different from earlier times. What will be the role of schools and teachers in mental wellbeing of students going forward?
Dr. Jyoti Verma: Teachers need to be a more and more updated as per time requirement. Schools should recruit such kind of updated teachers on job so that they can provide updated knowledge to the children.
Curious Times: As you reimagine the future, how can schools become inclusive and accommodate students from all ethnicities or with different abilities?
Dr. Jyoti Verma: Need to work on students’ potential. Need to work on priorities/ weaknesses. Need to work for overall development. Changes are required time to time.
Curious Times: Schools prepare children for higher education. Should competitive exams have a different curriculum than schools?
Coaching classes and ed-tech companies have been supplementing the school education. What do you think should be their role?
Dr. Jyoti Verma: Competitive exams should be based on basic as well as related topics, related subjects. If school is guiding in a proper, well-set way then there is no requirement of ed-tech and supplementary classes.
“Teachers should be by choice not by chance”. Passionate, proactive teacher can change the Education System.
