Educational institutes open as COVID cases reduce
Educational institutes open as COVID cases reduce.
COVID-19 pandemic has affected the education sector severely. The schools have remained close for almost two years now with intermittent attendance. Though schools had reopened briefly in 2021, they were again closed with the rise in COVID-19 cases. Though there was the option of online learning, it turned out to be difficult for students and teachers.
Learning loss was found in students when the schools were reopened in August 2021. Also, teachers have also found many new techniques to fill up the learning gap between the students and the teachers.
Reopening of Schools
The schools have reopened in many states from 7th February after their closure in November 2021. Offline classes for standards 9th to 12th classes resumed in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar and other states.
In Delhi, the classes for Nursery to 8th standard will resume on 14th February. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi announced that the online classes for students will also continue in the national capital.
States’ school reopening amidst COVID
In Bihar, the state government decided to lift the night curfew and to reopen schools. The schools in Bihar will hold offline classes with a 50% attendance for classes up to 8th class. For class 9th to 12th, there will be no restrictions.
Gujarat government has also announced to reopen the schools for classes 1 to 9 from 7th February. The education department said that the option of online teaching will also continue. The students can choose between the two systems.
In Uttar Pradesh, the schools will reopen from classes 9 to 12 and for degree colleges. The government has ordered that all the COVID protection protocols should be followed while attending offline classes.
The state government of Kerala has also relaxed COVID-19 restrictions and also ordered the reopening of schools. Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the classes for higher secondary schools and colleges will re-open from 7th February. The physical classes for Classes from 1st to 9th will start from 14th February.
Adding to this information, states such as Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand have resumed offline classes from 1st February 2022.
Students and teachers’ view on School reopening
The teachers and students look happy with the reopening of schools. Online classes are an option, obviously. It also depended on the internet connections and the availability of smartphones and computers. The students feel that in offline classes they are able to interact with their teachers better, as compared to the online classes.
According to the teachers, it has been a difficult phase for everyone. Some teachers have found it easy while for others, it has been quite a big task. Yet, the teachers feel that in the offline mode, they can interact better with their students and can explain the concepts better.
