99-year-old ex-soldier raises UK£6 million to fight COVID-19

We have been reading about many people, especially young children doing different things to help out during this difficult time.

Tom Moore, a 99-year-old ex-soldier, is also doing his bit to help contribute to the fight against COVID-19.

He has raised almost UK£6 million for the United Kingdom's NHS (National Health Service) by taking walks around his garden!

What is Tom's story?

"Captain Tom", as he is known, lives in Yorkshire, England. He has difficulty walking and uses a walking aid to do so.
 	Despite this, he wanted to raise donations for the NHS staff who helped him he was ill.
 	So, Tom started a donation campaign where he would take 100 walks around his garden before his 100th birthday on 30 April 2020 and requested people to donate money to help the NHS.
 	Tom started his campaign last week and was aiming to raise UK£1000. But since then, over 170,000 people have donated to his campaign!

Tom says that the response has been "unbelievable". He is very thankful to everyone. The money he is raising has been used for NHS staff as well as patients who have recovered.
