A powerful earthquake in Indonesia

We read about the deepest earthquake that surprised scientists.  On 14 December 2021, there was a powerful earthquake in Indonesia.  It struck off the coast of  South Sulawesi province. The earthquake was of 7.3 magnitudes. Indonesia has been a home tomany natural calamities like earthquakes., tsunamis and floods.

Damages and destruction

Fortunately, the locals have not reported any damages or destruction. However, the people experienced trembling and shaking of the ground.

Even though the officials announced tsunami warnings, but they have been taken down now.

In addition, many people were shocked and feared the worst. Some of them were ready to run to the nearby hills, while others ran out from their homes. 

Locals return to their homes

Now, residents have been told they can return home but were warned to stay away from beaches. Above all, there were no reports of serious damage or injuries.

Just 10 days prior, the Mount Semeru Volcano erupted on the island of Java in Indonesia. This resulted in many villages getting buried in volcanic ash. It also affected the lives of locals.
