A space song – Space Oddity a hit song and video all the way from space

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Are you kids curious to know about a space song? Yes, a song recorded in space? What would that sound like?

In 2013, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield became very popular when one of his songs became a viral sensation. This song was recorded at the International Space Station (ISS)!

The International Space Station (ISS) is a man-made satellite. It has been orbiting Earth for more than 15 years. The ISS project started in 1998 and it was made functional over two years.

About the song

The song is called Space Oddity and it was originally sung by English singer David Bowie. Today, Hadfield’s version has over 49 million views on Youtube.

According to Hadfield, it was very difficult to play the guitar in the ISS. This is because there was no gravity and the guitar was always slipping from his hand.

After this, in 2015, Hadfield also released an album called “Space Sessions: Songs from a Tin Can”. This is the “world’s first album in space”.

Who is Chris Hadfield?

Hadfield was part of the Canadian Space Agency. He was the first Canadian to walk in space.

He first flew into space three times. In his last mission in 2013, he became the commander of the ISS as a part of Expedition thirty-five.
