A Spanish village is up for sale!
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Would you consider purchasing an entire village? That is if you have ever entertained the notion of downsizing and moving to a more rural setting. The property known as Salto de Castro is currently up for sale. The asking price is nearly 2 crores. , It is located in the far north-west of Spain,
Salto de Castro is about three hour drive from Madrid. It contains many of the buildings that one would anticipate finding in a Spanish village of its size.
The 80-year-old owner of the property indicated that he is selling because he lives in the city and “cannot manage the care” of the village.
Key facts!
- Salto de Castro shares a border with Portugal.
- The village includes a hotel, a church, a school, a municipal swimming pool, and even a barracks structure that used to house the civil guard.
- There are a total of 44 private residences among them.
- However, what it does not have are people living in it.
- Over the course of the last three decades, Salto de Castro has been left uninhabited.
- The current proprietor purchased the town at the beginning of this century with the purpose of developing it into a destination for vacationers.
- However, the situation with the eurozone stopped the idea from being successful.
- According to the seller, there have been queries from Russia, France, Belgium, and the United Kingdom who have shown interest in purchasing.
- It is part of what has become known as “emptied Spain,” which refers to sparsely populated rural areas in Spain that lack many of the services that are available in towns and cities.
