AFC’s Women’s Committee chooses India to host 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup

AFC’s Women’s Committee chooses India to host 2022 AFC Women’s Asian CupThe Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s Women’s Committee announced on Tuesday that India will host the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

The other two potential hosts were Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) and Uzbekistan.

The committee chose India as it found India's strong commitment to women's football to be very encouraging.

India has been making great strides in promoting women's football.
 	India is hosting the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup this year while recently Bala Devi became the first Indian woman footballer to sign for a foreign football club.
 	Both tournaments will be held at the same venues including D.Y. Patil Stadium (in Mumbai), Trans Stadia Arena (in Ahmedabad) and Fatorda Stadium (in Margao, Goa).

What is the AFC Women’s Asian Cup?

It is a quadrennial competition in women's football for national teams which belong to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Quadrennial means once every four years.
 	The competition also serves as a qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women's World Cup.
 	For 2022, the tournament will be expanded from 8 to 12 teams. It will be held from late October and early November 2022. The dates are not finalised yet.
