Amazing Animals: The thorny devilYesterday, we read about the unique Diane's bare-hearted glass frog. Today, let's read about another unique creature - the thorny devil. It is a type of lizard found in Australia.

What is the reason behind this very scary name?

The thorny devil has been named so because it has the two large horned scales on its head (like 'the devil').

Its official name is Moloch horridus. It is also called the thorny dragon, mountain devil, thorny lizard and more.

What do we know about the thorny devil?

The thorny devil grows up to 21 cm in total length (including tail) and can live for 15 to 20 years.
 	It is brown or tan in colour, helping it to blend in the desert regions it lives in.
 	Its entire body is also covered with hard spikes.
 	Additionally, it has another unique part on its body - a spiny "false head" on the back of its neck. It uses the false head to fool predators.
