Authorities find rare white giraffes dead at Kenyan wildlife sanctuaryExtinction and death of wildlife animals is always a tragedy.

Recently, in another unfortunate incident, two rare white giraffes were killed by poachers* at a Kenyan wildlife sanctuary in Africa.

The dead remains of a mother giraffe and her calf were found at Ishaqbini Hirola Conservancy in Kenya.
 	The white female giraffe along with her calf was first spotted in 2017. Since then, they generated a lot of interest from tourists around the world.
 	These white giraffes are rare animals and cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
 	Now their deaths have left just one remaining white male giraffe in the conservancy.

The conservation community calls it a 'sad day' as they have lost these rare and unique species.

The authorities along with the local communities say they will work harder to prevent such poaching incidents in the future.

What is the reason for the white skin colour of these giraffes?

The skin cells of these giraffes do not produce colour, unlike other giraffes.
 	That is why they look white, pale or have a patchy appearance.

*Poachers - a person who breaks the laws to capture/kill the animals
