The biggest awards of the Indian Bollywood film industry, the “Filmfare awards” were announced on 23rd March 2019. The event took place at Jio Garden, BKC, Mumbai in presence of biggest stars of the Indian film industry.

The Best Film award was given to movie “Raazi”. Raazi is a spy film made around the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
 	The Critic’s Best Film award was given to film “Andhadhun”.
 	The Lifetime Achievement award was given posthumously (after someone dies) to legendary actress Sridevi.

The other major winners were:

Best Actor in a Leading Role Female: Alia Bhatt, Raazi and Male: Ranbir Kapoor, Sanju
 	Critics’ Award for Best Actor Female: Neena Gupta, Badhaai Ho and Male: Ranveer Singh, “Padmaavat”
 	Best Debut Actors Sara Ali Khan and Ishaan Khatter
 	Best Director: Meghna Gulzar, Raazi
 	Best Debut Director: Amar Kaushik, Stree
 	Best Original Story: Anubhav Sinha, Mulk
 	Best Playback Singer Female: Shreya Ghoshal for Ghoomar and Male: Arijit Singh for Ae Watan, Raazi
 	Best Lyrics: Gulzar for Ae Watan, Raazi.
 	Best Lyrics: AndhaDhun
 	Best Choreography: Kruti Mahesh Midya, Jyoti Tomaar for Ghoomar, “Padmaavat”

Filmfare awards are given annually by Times group to honour the artistic and technical performers in Bollywood Hindi film industry. The awards were started in year 1954 and are one of the most prestigious awards in Indian film industry.

The award statue (miniature) depicts a lady whose arms are raised in a dance number with her fingers touching. The statue is made of bronze, weighs almost 5 kg, is 46.5cm in height and is referred as “Black lady”.
