Bumblebees to be protected under California Endangered Species Act

Bumblebees to be protected under California Endangered Species ActBees are an essential part of the biodiversity of nature.

Recognizing this importance, 4 species of bumblebees will be classified as endangered*, under the California Endangered Species Act.

The four species are the western bumblebee, Franklin’s bumblebee, Crotch’s bumblebee and the Suckley cuckoo bumblebee.

This vote by the California Fish and Game Commission is very important.
 	Wild bees are responsible for the pollination of 80% of the crops on earth.
 	Protecting the bumblebees will protect many plant species from disappearing.
 	It will also ensure continued food supplies for the future.

The number of bumblebees in the wild has been reducing very quickly.

The Franklin bumblebee has not been seen in the wild since 2006.

We can all do our part by avoiding harmful pesticides and planting flowers in our gardens that bees love. like cosmos, echinacea, snapdragons.
