Cairo, Egypt’s capital city, is an ancient (very old) metropolis built on the banks of the Nile River. It is also a modern metropolis (a large or important city).

  • It is one of the most populous cities in the Islamic world, as well as the most populous city in Africa.

  • Cairo is a densely populated city with a lot of things to do. In reality, it is the sixth-most populous national capital in the world, according to the United Nations. Delhi is the second most populous city in the world, after Beijing (in China).
  • This city is an excellent starting point for learning about Egyptian history and culture. Additionally, the Giza Pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza are both within walking distance.

  • Cairo’s formal name is al-Qhirah, which literally translates as ‘the Strong’. It is the capital of Egypt.
  • The architecture of the city is predominantly Islamic, and there are numerous mosques and minarets to be found.

Being so near to the Sahara desert, Cairo can experience unusually scorching weather during the summer. The months of March to April and October to November are the greatest times to visit. That’s when the temps are at their most pleasant.
