Recommended for Preparatory Grades

The Mawmluh cave is recognised as a Global Geopark by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). The cave is located in Shillong, Meghalaya.

State authorities believe the accomplishment is a source of pride for the state of Meghalaya. The International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) is part of UNESCO.

During the IUGS 60th Anniversary Event, the First 100 IUGS Geological Heritage Sites will be announced. These sites are chosen from 181 candidate sites located in 56 different countries.

IUGS Global Geosites!

  • Geological surveys, research institutes, and geoparks from all over the world will work together to create a new IUGS Global Geosite inventory.
  • The project will come up with a new way of doing things.
  • The goal is to come up with a good plan that makes use of the knowledge and experience gained.
