Celebrate Hubble telescope’s 30th birthday by celebrating your birthday

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Happy 30th birthday to the Hubble Space Telescope!

It was launched on 24 April 1990 aboard the space shuttle Discovery by NASA with contributions from the European Space Agency (ESA). Since then, it has been capturing gorgeous photos of our universe non-stop.

Hubble has greatly contributed to our understanding of space and the universe.

Last year, on its 29th birthday, NASA released a spectacular image of the Southern Crab Nebula. A nebula is a giant cloud of dust and gas in space.

So, how is NASA celebrating Hubble’s 30th birthday?

  • NASA is celebrating this special day in a very fun and unique way – it has launched a new search feature to find out what out-of-this-world photo Hubble captured on your birthday!
  • All you have to do is go to the NASA website here and put in the month and date of your birthday. It will show the image which you can share on social media.

NASA has also released the 30 best pictures taken by Hubble in its 30 years.  You can view them here (link).

Hubble took a photo of the Southern crab nebula on my birthday. Tell us what image Hubble took on your birthday!
