China has imposed a curfew (restrictions) on online gaming for minors (under the age of 18).

The aim of this is to control the habit of children playing online games.
 	The guidelines will be applied to all the gaming platforms, especially Tencent, which is the world's biggest gaming company.
 	As per the new guidelines minors are not allowed to play games between 10 p.m to 8 a.m.
 	The guidelines also restrict the amount of money transferred by minors to their online gaming accounts.
 	Gamers aged between 8-16 years can only top up 200 yuan (US$29) per month, while the maximum amount for those between 16-18 will be 400 yuan (US$57).

According to administration, these new rules will create a 'clear internet space' and 'protect the physical and mental health of minors'.

Also, these new guidelines align with China's ongoing campaign to increase the regulation of the gaming industry.

History

In August 2018, Beijing announced plans to limit the number of online games.
 	The aim was to reduce nearsightedness (objects farther away appear to be blurred) in children and adolescents.
 	In June 2018, Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD), was added to the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases.
