China marks 70 years of communist rule

China marks 70 years of communist ruleToday. China (officially People’s Republic of China or PRC) celebrated 70 years of communist* rule. Mao Zedong (Chairman Mao) was the founding father of the People's Republic of China in 1949.

It celebrated with massive parades of arms and military troops all over the country.

Large groups of servicemen and women marching past and lines of tanks, drones and missiles were observed during the celebrations.

These celebrations come during a period of complications for China. It is facing a trade war with the United States while facing anti-government protests in Hong Kong since June.

At the celebrations, President Xi Jinping along with his predecessors Hu Jintao and Jiang Zemin took a pledge for peaceful development and provide assurance for overcoming the ongoing challenges.
 	He pledged to safeguard China's sovereignty, security, and development interests, and maintain world peace.
 	President Xi in his speech at urged to maintain prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macau.
 	In order to celebrate China's achievements, a civilian parade of students, model workers, ethnic minorities and even a few foreigners were also organised.

As per the state media,  70,000 doves were released to symbolise peace at the end of the show.

There were anti-government protests in Hong Kong today as well.

*Communism: An economic and social system in which all (or nearly all) property and resources are collectively owned by a classless society and not by individual citizens.
