City photos from space, as astronauts capture amazing images

Recommended for Foundational Grades

Can you imagine how a city would look from space? Well, astronauts often share city photos from space. This time they have clicked beautiful images of cities in China. Let’s read more on it.

The International Space Station (ISS) is a space laboratory which is supported by many countries. It keeps travelling around Earth and astronauts live on this station. It travels about 400 km above Earth.

So, as it is so high above us, astronauts get to see Earth in a whole new way. They often capture amazing images of Earth, like a volcano erupting.

Recently, astronauts captured city photos from space of two Chinese cities. These amazing images are of Xiamen and Quanzhou. These are cities located near the South China Sea. In the image above, the dark portion is the South China Sea.

Quanzhou (also known as Chinchew) is an ancient city that was once an important centre of trade. It was visited by famous travellers such as Marco Polo. Even today, it is an important manufacturing centre in China.

It is very important that astronauts on the ISS take city photos from space and other types of images of Earth. It helps scientists and the general public (like us) to understand more about our amazing planet!
