Climate change talks at COP25 end without agreementHere at CuriousTimes, we've been following all the news about the climate change summit which took place in December this year.

The 25th Conference of the Parties, or COP25 as it is better known, has concluded on 15 December 2019.
 	The 2-week summit was extended for an additional 2 days but ended without the desired results.

The agenda

This year's summit had aimed to set very strict rules about the global carbon market, in order to achieve the 1.5-degree temperature target from the Paris agreement.
 	It was expected that all the countries present will pledge to raise their national targets as required by a UNEP report published earlier.

The result

The text agreed upon by the countries present at the summit were not clear on their pledges to enhance their Paris emissions reductions targets.
 	On a positive note, the European Union (EU) committed to being carbon neutral by 2050.
 	Overall, the summit in Madrid, Spain ended without a deal.

The way ahead

The focus is now on the Glasgow summit, COP26 next year. That's when the rules must absolutely be set in place for the global carbon mechanism (the results) to take effect in 2021.
 	Also, it seems, a big EU-China summit in September next year is on the cards, just before the next UN climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland.

This summit before the COP26 will supposedly help in determining whether the rules can be agreed in time.
