Over the last 24 hours, India recorded over 4.12 lakh COVID-19 infections. This is the highest recorded in India till now and the highest in the world.

The World Health Organization said that India accounted for 46% of global cases and 25% of global deaths last week.

The government says that twelve states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh, have more than a lakh active COVID-19 cases each. Assam, Odisha and Bihar are also seeing an increase in cases.

Around 16.24 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been given out in India so far.

Situation throughout the country

Kerala has announced a lockdown from 8 to 16 May. There will also be a total lockdown in the East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya till 10 May. Madhya Pradesh will also have a lockdown till 15 May.

The Election Commission of India has postponed by-elections in three Lok Sabha seats and eight seats in state assemblies.

As the situation is not getting better in Delhi, the government is sending out teams to areas with a high number of cases. The teams are charged with identifying spots that might be “super-spreaders”.

Experts have warned that India must prepare for a third wave. International help continues to arrive as India fights the second wave.

These are very hard times. We have to take all the precautions and can’t leave everything to the doctors and government.
