COVID-19 update: Health ministry says smokers are more vulnerable to virusCOVID-19 cases in India have crossed 1.53 million. 988,000 of those have recovered. Globally, 16.7 million cases have been reported.

The Health Ministry informed that smokers are more vulnerable to COVID-19. When smoking, the virus moves from hand to mouth. Tobacco is also harmful for the body.

West Bengal, Bihar and Kerala extended lockdowns in various places to stop the spread.
 	Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has gone into seven-day isolation. This is a precautionary measure after three people in Raj Bhavan tested positive for COVID-19.
 	The government has removed the requirement of a licence for stocking and sale of hand sanitisers. This will make such items more easily available to the public.
 	A medical survey in Mumbai has found that about 16% of residents in the city had contracted the virus without being aware they had. In slum areas, the number was a huge 57 %.

What is the situation globally?

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says global air travel will not reach pre-pandemic levels until 2024.
 	New restrictions are being imposed in Europe and Asia. Many countries are facing fresh outbreaks after previously being successful at stopping it.
 	Hajj has begun in Saudi Arabia with no international visitors and many social distancing rules. Hajj is a holy pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia for Muslims.
 	US company Moderna Inc.’s COVID-19 vaccine has seen good results after being tested on 16 monkeys. Now, it will be tested on 30,000 people.
