Deltacron: New COVID-19 variant discovered.

In the time, when we are coping with the omicron spread, there is a hint that a new variant of the COVID-19 virus has been detected. The virus is changing its colours and if not taken proper care of, it can harm you of course.

Leondios Kostrikis, a professor of biological sciences in Cyprus has claimed that he has detected a new strain of the COVID-19 virus. This strain combines the features of both the Delta and Omicron variants. Therefore, the virus is called Deltacron.

The newly recognized virus is named Deltacron because the researchers identified the genetic signatures of Omicron within the Delta variant.

What is genetic signature?

Genetic signature is a single or group of genes in a cell with a unique pattern.

The 25 cases that are supposed to be of the new variant, were sent to  GISAID(global science initiative and primary source) which keeps track of changes in the virus.

As of now, the Deltacron variant hasn’t been recognized by any International health authority. Though, Kostrikis believes that this new variant will be taken over by the omicron variant.

Omicron update

Omicron is spreading severely with Maharashtra at the top of the list with 1,216 omicron cases. Many states have imposed night curfew and put limitations due to the severe spread. The centre has allowed the third dose of the vaccination to be given to the frontline workers and people above 60 years of age.

The United States has detected most cases of the omicron variant with a count of 466,000 new cases. The people in the US are finding it difficult to find beds in hospitals. The United Kingdom follows the lead of the US and has recorded 1.5 lakh COVID-19 cases.

Also, a flight from Italy to India observed 150 passengers detected with the COVID-19 virus. So, if you’re flying from India to the US, Canada or the UK, you need to take all the precautions. Maintain a safe distance and stay masked up.

At Curious Times, we believe that everyone who’s reading this is taking all the safety measures. If you do so, neither omicron nor the deltacron can harm you.

Stay safe and curious!
