Doctors perform surgery on violinist while she playsRecently, Dagmar Turner, a violinist in the UK had brain surgery. What was remarkable about it? She played her violin in the middle of the surgery!

Why did she do it?

Dagmar had a tumour in her brain which needed to be removed. However, she was afraid that surgery would affect her musical abilities.
 	The tumour was extremely close to the regions of the brain that controls movements on the left hand. This is very important for playing the violin.
 	So, the doctors at King's College Hospital in London decided to remove the tumour while she was playing the violin.
 	This was so that they would not accidentally damage the parts of her brains used for playing.

How did they perform this surgery?

Surgeries require anaesthesia so that patients don't feel pain. This also puts them to sleep for the whole procedure.
 	However, for Dagmar, the doctors planned ahead and woke her up in the middle of the operation to play the violin while they operated. Of course, she did not feel any pain.

The operation was a success and Dagmar is recovering well.
