Donald Trump’s impeachment update – Senators sworn inWe've read about the formal impeachment inquiry that was launched against the US President, Donald Trump in September 2019. And that the House of Representatives impeached him in December 2019.

The Trial begins

Today on 17 January 2020, a solemn (formal and dignified) ceremony of the trial of President Donald Trump got officially under way, on the Senate (Upper House) floor.
 	Nearly all 100 senators were present, sitting quietly in their seats.
 	The Chief Justice, John Roberts arrived to be sworn in - to preside impartially over the impeachment trial of President Trump.
 	He then administered the oath to the full senate, with every Senator standing with their arms raised while they promised impartial justice. They also signed a pledge one by one, to do the same.
 	The managers from the House of Representatives, members of the Congress who will present the 2 articles of impeachment walked across the Capitol to the Senate.
 	The 2 articles, charging the President with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, were formally read.

Even as the trial begins, major new allegation regarding Ukraine has come to light.

It appears that President Trump withheld US$400 million in US military aid for Ukraine that had been passed by Congress.

This further strengthens the House's case for impeachment and removal of the President, and reinforces the need for a fair trial in the Senate that includes documents and witnesses.
