Earthquakes move Turkey 5 meters, claims experts!
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Seismologists say that when there were earthquakes in Turkey, the country moved about 5–6 metres. Experts also think that the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria were caused by different tectonic plates.
These plates constantly collided with each other resulting in earthquakes.
Scholars state that “The earthquake has resulted in. massive deep cut that stretched across an area that was 190 kilometres long and 25 kilometres wide.”
It violently shook the ground and caused a sequence that reached its two most intense peaks nine hours apart. In the meantime, a virtually endless number of insignificant jolts were also experienced.
Key facts!
- An expert has speculated that Turkey may have even slipped by five to six metres compared to Syria.
- This is most likely towards the direction of the west.
- More than ten thousand people have been impacted as a result of the earthquakes that have struck Turkey and Syria.
- The earthquakes have caused damage to various buildings in both countries.
- After the events that occurred on Monday, both countries continued to experience many aftershocks and earthquakes.
- The aftershocks further frightened the local population.
- Experts point out that the quakes formed a sort of fault.
- Seismologists call this fault a “shallow transcurrent” with a hypocenter.
- This hypocenter is the deep spot where the earth breaks out.
- The government authorities have stated that in the next few days, more precise information would be available via satellites.
- India is among the dozens of countries that have dispatched search and rescue teams and relief supplies to Turkey and Syria in an effort to locate people who may still be alive.
