Ebola outbreak in Uganda and DR Congo

Ebola outbreak in Uganda and DR CongoIt has been confirmed that the Ebola virus has spread to Uganda from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

This has created great concern in Uganda and across central Africa.

Mass gatherings including market days and prayers have been cancelled in Uganda.
 	Uganda's health ministry and the WHO (World Health Organisation) said that a rapid response team had been sent to identify others at risk.
 	WHO and other international organisations are currently engaged in prevention activities and vaccination in both DR Congo and Uganda.

Ebola in DR Congo

The virus has been spreading rapidly since August 2018 but was limited within DR Congo.
 	WHO  labelled it as the second-largest outbreak of Ebola in history.
 	Till date around 1,400 people have died in the Democratic Republic of Congo of Ebola.

What is Ebola?

Ebola is a rare but dangerous virus.
 	Patients must begin treatment as soon as possible. Vaccines are also available.
 	Protective equipment must be worn by patients as well as people who are treating them.
 	It is spread by direct contact with an infected person through broken skin, mouth, nose, or through blood and other bodily fluids.
