Europe introduces Green Deal, aims to become climate-neutral by 2050At a critical time in our planet's history, with climate change and global warming issues increasing, the European Commission has introduced the European Green Deal.

This initiative aims to make Europe, the first climate-neutral continent, by 2050.

What does climate-neutral mean and how do they plan to achieve this?

Activities are climate-neutral (CO₂ neutral) if they do not put a strain on the climate, i.e. if they do not create greenhouse gases.
 	The European Green Deal provides a roadmap with actions to boost the efficient use of resources.
 	It aims to have a clean, circular economy which will stop the climate crisis, revert biodiversity loss, and cut pollution.
 	Additionally, it covers all sectors of the economy. This includes, transport, energy, agriculture, buildings, and industries such as steel, cement, textiles and chemicals.
 	Meeting all the objectives will require significant financial investment. The deal will also ensure that there is enough support for citizens and countries who may find it difficult to adjust to the new laws.
 	Once all the 28 member states of the EU (European Union) approves in January next year, the laws can be implemented by 2021.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says, "By showing the rest of the world how to be sustainable and competitive, we can convince other countries to move with us".
