Exciting change: Aadhaar for birth and death!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Hey inquisitive reader, guess what? The Indian government has made an interesting decision about something called Aadhaar! They say it can be used when babies are born and when people pass away.

Let us tell you all about it!

Aadhaar Flexibility: Births and Deaths

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEiTY) in India has given permission to the Office of Registrar General of India (RGI) to use the Aadhaar database for checking people’s identities when they register births and deaths. But wait, they also say that Aadhaar is not mandatory for this registration. It’s optional!
  • So, what does that mean? Well, it means that when a baby is born or when someone dies, the people in charge of keeping records (the Registrar) can check if the information is correct using Aadhaar. They can say “Yes or No” to check if the Aadhaar number matches the details given for the birth or death. It’s like a secret code that helps them know who’s who!
  • But here’s the interesting part, my friend. The government says that the Registrar can only do this if they want to and if they think it’s a good idea. They have to follow certain rules and ask the Central government for permission. It’s all about keeping things safe and making life easier for everyone.
  • So, there you have it! The government has given the Office of Registrar General of India a special power to use Aadhaar to check identities during births and deaths, but they don’t have to if they don’t want to. It’s a funny way of making sure things are in order. Isn’t that interesting?
