Fantastic Beasts – An exciting exhibition held in a museum in London

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

London’s Natural History Museum (NHM) is holding a very exciting exhibition starting 9 December 2020. It is called the Fantastic Beasts: The Wonder of Nature. The museum promises that it will be one of the best it’s ever staged.

The museum is working with the BBC and the movie studio Warner Brothers for this exhibition. Warner Brothers is the studio that produces the Harry Potter and related movies like Fantastic Beasts.

What is the Fantastic Beasts exhibition about?

The NHM is using the popularity of magical creatures in the Harry Potter series to show some of the world’s real amazing creatures, many of which are under threat or endangered

The Fantastic Beasts exhibition will pick 90 specimens from the museum’s world-famous collections of animals. This will be displayed next to 30 or so props (figures) of creatures from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies.

There will be plenty of information to compare the real and imaginary creatures. Many imaginary creatures from fairy tales have been inspired by real animals. For example, stories of mermaids are believed to have come from people seeing sea cows or manatees.

Through the Fantastic Beasts exhibition, the NHM wants people to understand the threat of extinction that many animals face.
