First-ever all-female spacewalking team makes history

First-ever all-female spacewalking team makes historyWe read about NASA's plan for the first all-female spacewalk.

Today, NASA's all-female spacewalking team have made history. They are the first all-female team to do a spacewalk (in a half-century of spacewalking).

The team consisted of NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir.
 	They floated out of the International Space Station (ISS) to fix a broken part of the power network.
 	For Ms Meir, this is her first spacewalk. She became the 228th person in the world to conduct a spacewalk and the 15th woman.
 	It was the fourth spacewalk for Ms Koch, who is on an 11-month mission that will be the longest ever by a woman.

NASA had originally wanted to conduct an all-female spacewalk last spring but did not have enough medium-size suits available.

America’s first female spacewalker Kathy Sullivan expressed her delight. Another female astronaut, Tracy Caldwell Dyson, a three-time spacewalker, added- “Hopefully, this will now be considered normal.”

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine expressed that these women are an inspiration to people all over the world. People around the world also cheered the two women on.
