Bangladesh has ‘floating hospitals’ for Char islands

Bangladesh has ‘floating hospitals’ for Char islandsFriendship is an NGO (non-governmental organisation) in Bangladesh that has built hospitals on ships.

Their aim is to provide free medical care to the people who live on islands (chars).

Friendship currently has two floating hospitals and has plans to build five more in the future.

Chars are islands in Bangladesh which keeps changing in shape due to climate change.

As a result, it is difficult to build permanent buildings like hospitals.
 	466 families live on chars, which are located at least a day away from the nearest hospital.

What services do the floating hospitals provide?

They provide free medical treatment and are well-equipped with medical facilities and doctors.
 	They can provide basic check-ups and some complicated surgeries. 
 	They send medical teams to the chars for check-ups.
 	They help train women from the chars to spread awareness and prescribe medicines.
